How do I measure the belt size correctly?
There are several ways to correctly measure the ideal belt size. The most practical and easiest method for determining the ideal belt size is to measure worn belts. But the measurement of the waistband is also often used. Calculating with the help of the trouser size is very imprecise and therefore not recommended.
Measure worn belts
- Do you already have a belt that fits like a glove? Then you can use this to determine the correct belt size.
- It's easy to do: Place a tape measure or yardstick on the end of the mandrel or on the inside of the belt buckle and measure the belt length to the hole you use most often. This should normally be the middle of the five holes. Usually this can be clearly identified by means of signs of wear. To be on the safe side, you should check whether this is the place that fits best or whether you should actually tighten the belt (or further). The calculated length (in cm) is the ideal size.
Measure the hip
- The second possibility of determining the correct belt length is also not particularly complex. All you need is a tape measure that you put around your hips or waist like a belt - depending on where you wear the belt. The displayed value corresponds to the perfect belt length. If you have reached an intermediate value (for example 102 cm), it is best to round up to the next size (here 105 cm) - so the belt will fit you even after the Christmas season.
If you are wondering why belts have several holes (usually 5) and why you should measure up to the middle hole, here are the answers:
The number of holes gives the belt wearer the opportunity to compensate for minor changes in the body, including the belt for trousers to use different waist heights and to adjust to the different material thicknesses of the pants (especially when you put a shirt into your pants). Thus, the measurement up to the middle hole offers the greatest possible scope.
In addition, this measurement guarantees the correct belt size so that there is enough of the belt to pull it through the loop, but not too much so that the belt end hangs down. The length from the middle hole to the end of the belt is ideally 15-19cm.
